A Canadian technology firm UserFul has developed a new software that enables multiple use of single personal computers.
The technology, which is targeted at schools, call centres and Internet cafe operators, enables several monitors to use one Central Processing Unit (CPU) concurrently— enabling operators of businesses that need a large number of computer to cut costs.
It uses a Linux-based open source technology system that has become popular with consumers in Brazil and South Africa. An operator with 10 work stations, for example, needs to install five of the dual graphic cards to access the same CPU. All the users have to do is to buy monitors and the dual graphic cards to remain in business. This means that using the new technology enables an operator to cut costs by nearly half.
